I feel like in the last few weeks AI haters have been drawing clear some clear lines. The orange site for examples has an anti-AI policy. OSS projects are making it clear that AI contributors are not welcome (matplotlib, Django, etc.). Bug bounties are ending because of the mountain of AI slop.
I think these reactions are reasonable. But, they are very reactionary. The puck is moving so fast. How can anyone tell where it will go. I think if organizations are making policies that state that they don’t know how to handle the situation at the moment and they are slowing their roll and will actively figure out how to integrate AI, I would be respect that.
I think just calling yourself anti-AI will actually change how you think about the problem.
If you assume that AI will be a part of our lives (even for technical people that are having to redefine their profession right now) and figuring out how to integrate them is a problem to be solved, I think you will start looking for solutions. But, if your position is that it’s all slop, then I think you’ll just kill an imagination you might have had.
One of us wrong. We’ll find out soon. The future is coming sooner than it used to.
